Daet is home to what is widely reported as the first monument erected to José Rizal anywhere in the Philippines — construction began December 30, 1898 and finished in February 1899, under a decree by General Emilio Aguinaldo, funded by local contributions. It was declared a historical landmark in 1961 and a National Monument in 2008, and is the basis for Daet's annual Bantayog Festival.
Key industries: Agriculture (coconut, rice, small sweet pineapples), Fishing (San Miguel Bay), Gold mining (Paracale), Tourism (Calaguas Islands)
Paracale municipality carries a much older land-use story: gold mining there predates Spanish contact, with Juan de Salcedo's 1572 expedition finding operations already underway, and a 1930s boom briefly made it one of the country's richest towns. Gold mining continues today but is now predominantly informal and small-scale, with documented mercury contamination in tailings — a tripartite formalization effort is working toward mercury-free extraction. The province's 2023 economy grew 3.7% even as its traditional agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector contracted 8.7%, with growth instead carried by transportation, other services, and food/accommodation.

A province where informal small-scale gold mining continues to pose a documented mercury-contamination and land-use challenge, alongside a provincial SGLG status that a conflicting local claim got wrong, is a strong case for a dashboard that keeps a PPDO's own governance facts straight rather than repeated from an unverified source.
With a provincial SGLG claim that conflicting sources got wrong, and informal gold mining pressing on land-use planning in Paracale, Camarines Norte has real facts worth getting straight in one place. A Nova Gov pilot does exactly that across all 12 municipalities.
