Urban planning context

Silang, founded in 1595, is one of Cavite's oldest towns and today carries a split identity captured in its own nicknames: “Food Bastion for Metro Manila” for its pineapple and coffee farms, and “Gateway to Tagaytay” for its position on the main route into Cavite's tourism highlands. With 295,644 residents (2020 Census) spread across 64 barangays — more subdivisions of local government than any other municipality in this batch — Silang has absorbed heavy residential and outlet-mall development along the Tagaytay corridor over the past two decades. That growth sits in direct tension with the agricultural identity the town is named for: pineapple and coffee farmland is steadily being converted to subdivisions and commercial development as Metro Manila and Cavite's own urbanized towns push residential demand further south along the CALAX expressway corridor. Any CLUP update for Silang has to weigh how much of its remaining farmland to protect against how much more residential and commercial conversion the Tagaytay-corridor demand will keep generating.

Key industries: Agriculture (pineapple, coffee), Residential/subdivision development, Retail and outlet commerce
