Yes. Marikina City is a highly urbanized city in Metro Manila, officially the National Capital Region (NCR).
Marikina City is in the Second District of the National Capital Region, also known as the Eastern Manila District, together with Mandaluyong, Pasig, Quezon City and San Juan. The Philippine Statistics Authority groups Metro Manila's cities and its one municipality into four such districts. They are a statistical and administrative grouping, not congressional districts.
Marikina City had 471,323 residents in the 2024 census (PSA 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN 2024), reference date July 1, 2024). That is the most recent official count. There is no 2026 census result, so any 2026 population figure is an estimate.
Marikina City covers 21.52 km², per the PSA Philippine Statistical Yearbook figure used on this page.
Marikina City has 16 barangays.
Marikina's identity is inseparable from its river. The Sto. Niño gauge beneath Sto. Niño Bridge sets the official flood-alarm levels — 15 meters to prepare, 16 meters to evacuate, 18 meters for forced evacuation — that PAGASA and the city's disaster office use to manage the entire Marikina River basin, not just the city itself. Riverside barangays including Provident Village, Tumana, Malanday, Nangka, Concepcion, and Sto. Niño flood first and fastest when the river rises, and the risk is real and recent: in July 2025 the river crested at 18.7 meters, well past the third alarm level, forcing the evacuation of roughly 4,799 families (23,639 people) across 12 barangays and a state of calamity declared by Mayor Maan Teodoro. The West Valley Fault runs directly beneath the city too — the fault segment here is officially named the Marikina Valley Fault System — putting Marikina on both of Metro Manila's major hazard maps at once.
Key industries: Footwear + leather manufacturing, Furniture, Retail
Marikina is the Philippines' shoe-manufacturing capital, a reputation built over generations of small and mid-sized footwear workshops and preserved today at the city's Shoe Museum. That manufacturing base, combined with the city's aggressive post-Ondoy investment in river monitoring and disaster preparedness, has made Marikina something of a reference point in Philippine local disaster-risk planning circles. Its population grew from 456,059 in the 2020 Census to 471,323 in 2024.
Officials managing shared fault-line exposure can compare notes with neighboring Quezon City, also directly traversed by the West Valley Fault, in the LGU directory. Planning teams evaluating digital compliance tools can explore the pilot program or schedule a consultation.

Marikina's flood-alarm system generates real-time river data that has to reach 12+ barangays fast enough to matter — the July 2025 event moved from first alarm to a 23,639-person evacuation in a matter of hours. Nova Gov's citizen-report routing is designed to help a planning and disaster office move that kind of time-sensitive information to the right barangay without a manual phone tree.
Marikina's flood alarms move fast — 4,799 families evacuated across 12 barangays within hours during the July 2025 crest. See how a pilot would help route that kind of time-critical alert and citizen-report data to the right office without manual coordination.
